Overview

Challenge

Creating a speakeasy-inspired music video in New York City for The Gypsy Queens, with a tight budget and a one-day shoot from set-up to breakdown. The project had multiple undecided elements, requiring a streamlined pre-production process to ensure everything could be prepped, shot, and wrapped up in a single day.

Approach

The first step was to refine the storyboard to fit both the budget and scheduling constraints. Extensive pre-production planning helped ensure the entire video production could be executed smoothly in one day. This involved close collaboration between the band, MultiVision Creative’s Executive Producer, Director, and Director of Photography to align all aspects of the shoot.

Telling the Story

The music video captures a young Didi Casnati, the founder of The Gypsy Queens, falling in love with music as a child in Nice, France, influenced by Tony Danza’s character. The narrative quickly transitions to modern-day New York City, where Didi and The Gypsy Queens perform at a high-end private party in a speakeasy. Tony Danza joins the band in this lively performance, with cameos from Joe Pantoliano, Michele Hicks, and Joe Gannascoli, lending star power to the production.

Location Scouting and Transformation

Finding the perfect location to evoke the speakeasy vibe was critical. MultiVision Creative scouted several venues before selecting a raw event space in New York City. The team transformed the space with appropriate lighting, furniture, and accessories to match the band’s aesthetic and the mood of the song.

Pre-Production and Set Dressing

To execute the speakeasy atmosphere, a lot of attention went into set dressing. Every piece of furniture, accessory, and furnishing was carefully selected to give the raw space a high-end, authentic feel. Talent scouting was also crucial, ensuring all extras were dressed appropriately and knew their movements during filming.
